I have the same problem Silverbeast, I have replaced just the steering gear once (not much difference) and replaced the steering gear, powersteering pump, and all hoses the next time. its a little better, but still not like it used to be. both local dealers have told me the same thing. "yeah, alot of the 99,00,01,02 diesels are like that."

I have gotten used to driving it like that, but it would sure be nice to have a fix.

Perhaps someone can chime in with a decent aftermarket upgrade or a good bomb fix for the steering.

I had the same thing, once I got new tires for some odd reason it doesn't do it anymore.... Place that did my tires didn't say anything about it. I find it hard to believe that my new tires fixed the problem so whatever it was may have just fixed it self if it was air somewhere and did it while the tire place had it... Strange so I'm not sure what my issue was

YakDaddy,

Groaning is a symptom of low fluid &/or Air in the lines. the groaning is the impeller in the pump sucking air. mine doesn't groan. just doesn't like to move.

i forgot to say. I rebuilt the front end b4 i had any problems. When they did that they told me my powersteering pump was leaking so i asked them to replace it.Well they did and the thing was still leakin, come to find out it was the vacum pump.Repaired the vacum leak and still having trouble with the power steering not working, its hit or miss if im sitting still or creeping along u cant turn it very well? Never had that problem till i rebuilt upper lower ball joints, new tie rod ends, new trac bar,and steering box brace, also dual steering stabalizers! the shop is telling me powersteering pump is working and it's the dual steering stabalizer's screwing up my steering? Say's there so stiff my power steering pump cant turn with em on there? Any of ya'll heard anything like that?

my fluid is full, it's first thing I checked because it also powers the brakes I know to keep it full

take the steering stabilizers off and see how she dose. what brand of pump? a1 cardone pumps are all complete crap! if it is a cardone part it could very well be an internal pump issue and not assisting much ever just dont feel it much while moving
