check your intercooler boots and make sure one is not a ripped, unhooked, or has slipped out of a clamp. I had this happen earlier this year. I was just about to throw injectors at it. thank goodness someone on this site suggested that I check ALL the easy stuff first. all the boost was blowing out through the slipped boot instead of into the intake. this created a severe overfueled charge and tons of unburnt fuel thus the black smoke.

Never seen a 24v truck that the needle didn't bounce around on the RPM gauge.

Smoke is pretty heavy for a stock pickup. Do some simple things like clean air filter and change fuel filter. Then start looking into others ideas. Mysterync may be on to something with the larger injectors installed.

Here is a thread that shows how to build a boost tester to test for boost leaks.

So it had a boost leak? Glad to hear you got it fixed.... now that you know it doesn't have a set of injectors why don't you go ahead and put a good set in... then she'll have a "set of nuts"
