Hey, I'm looking at buying a 98 24 cummins off of a guy around town. the truck is in decent shape but not amazing but for 45O0 I almost can't pass up the deal. The only thing that's weird about it is the trans will usually not go in to 1st gear and then yesterday it dOwn shifted to 1st and would up shift until he shut the truck off and then turned it back on. The owner of the truck also said the trans started acting up when the abs and brake light turn on as well as the speedo quit working. Any ideas???

speed/abs sensor on top of the rear diff.

 

Thats what I was hoping for that it was just one of the 2 speed sensors, I wanna say that the guy said he replaced the speed sensor on top of the rear diff and not the one on the trans or transfer case but im not 100% sure.

 

when my sensor went bad i had all the same lights and my speedo acted up crazy.

can't say much on the shifting though because mine is a 5 speed. i'd try replacing abs/speed sensor

 

i have a 98 cummins auto and right now its not shifting out of 1st I was told its the control shift solenoid in the tran east fix for about $150 could be something to look into

 

That's another thing. I'd try starting off cheapest and working toasted expensive if it were me and I was just doing guess work
