Any Real Reliability Issues With The 24v
I am looking into buying a 24 valve cummins and I was wondering if there was any real realiability issues with them. I used to have 95 12 valve and I never had a bit of problems with it. and if there are any issues how hard is it to counter those issues? thanks guys
Logan got most of em down. If you buy a 2000 or up you're pretty safe as far as the 53 block. When you get it I would go ahead and upgrade the fuel delivery to the injection pump (Fass, Airdog, Walbro) and get at least a fuel pressure gauge.
Front ends - balljoints, steering boxes etc. can be troublesome as well (as in any truck).
But the biggest concern is the lift pump, and Injection pump (VP-44).
Before you buy a truck, make sure you check it out - have it scanned for codes, and try to check the fuel pressure from the lift pump. The 24Vs are entirely different animals than the 12V's.

WOW all the problems I had with my truck whenI got it!! But I love the truck and will never get rid of it!! all easy stuff to fix and EVERY ONE on here will help you every step of the way (The only thing I have not lost yet is the VP44) Good luck with what ever truck you pick out!!!
