I have a truck that had an RPM runaway after a turbo failure. What RPM's are being run on pulling trucks before you see stretched rod bolts, head gasket failures and damaged valve springs? Truck is a 98.5, 24 valve.

 

well first off what did you turn it to and what egts did it see and what boost did it hit and for how long

 

This is a stock truck. The RPM's were caused by fueling off oil from the turbocharger. The truck has no gauges other than stock. The computer snap shot of the over speed shows 4500. I have seen the run away on mechanical engines and usually it destroys at least 1 injector and then the associated cylinder. This engine shows no signs of damage.

 

clean everything really well then replace the charger. if it comes down to being over cautious pull the injectors to inspect them and check the compression. and if your really wanting to get into it get a bore scope and look inside the motor. i would think your ok with an oil related overspeed because it runs all the cylinders not just one. i turn my vp44 drag truck 4500 every pass down the track.
