Wheel hubs
I'm getting a grinding sound from the front end. I believe it's a wheel hub bearing. How much does a bad bearing affect mpgs? Any tech tips as I am going to attempt the repair myself. Found Timkins for about $550 for the pair (may as well do both huh?) is that a decent price?
A bad bearing shouldnt affect MPGs at all. Replacing the bearings them selves are kind of a pain in the butt if you've never done them. A while ago I saw a really good write up on how to do it somewhere on the site I couldnt seem to find it tho...
just dont wait to fix! they fail fast after they make noise, and weel will lock up, or just almost fall off. they are not terible to change just geting the flange off is hard. I use heat from torch sparingley to aid, and if you dont want to sve old hub you can use big hamer on to dislodge many years of rust.
