I believe that Blue24vCummins is correct. I upgraded my injectors when I replaced my VP44, so I'm not positive about this, but I don't think you necessarily have to remove the injection lines from the head to replace a VP44 IP.
I did the IP replacement back in '04, however, so I'm relying on loong term memory here.

Didn't say it couldn't be done, said to do it correctly. It's so easy to take the lines off, and It's much harder to damage a line. When we install vp pumps we clean the lines and that entire side of the head so we do it anyway. Clean parts make an impression on our customers . We want them to know we have gone the extra mile.
