I always use low pressure was on the engine. The alternator shouldn't get soaked, but I frequently pass over it a few times. Everything under the hood is pretty sealed, but enough force will open anything up. I suggest to start at a safe distance, and if there are a few ignorant spots, get a little closer.

STAY AWAY FROM THE PCM, if it gets hit with to hard of pressure or gets watter in it, your truck will not be happy! other than that i hit mine with the steam cleaner from time to time and never had a problem, also depends on where you are from, here in idaho it getts a little cold this time of year and if you wash it the throttle cable will freeze, haha i found out the hard way on that. i thought engine heat would be enough but you find out quick when you try to slow down and she wont

and if you wash it while the truck is hot, don't splash to much to fast on the exhuast manifold. heat shock and cracking could happen.
