you'd have to swap and splice the engine harness into the 03 plus swap all the computers to make it run right.

it depends on when in 02 your truck was made 2002 and1/2 is the same engine and truck as the 03 and should work just fine. you are gona have to swap tail shafts on the tranny to match up with the transfer case but it should work just fine. if it were me sell the 2 wheel drive and buy a new moter for the 4x4 but i know how money is right now. hope that helps alittle. good luck

Yea its kinda a free truck to me if I want it and I've fixed just about everything on my motor + mods, the 03 is commonrail my 02 is vp44, then here's the prob with the 03 other than the tranny, it runs but only with a diesel soaked rag in the airbox pull rag away it dies, it has new fuel pump but I don't kno how to check the newer injection pump, the tranny I could fix but I already kno what up with mine!!!

Anyone else have more info?? Or from what I gather I can just pull my motor and computers and set it in the 03 and just rebuild the 48re and it should be fine??? If this is possible on a 3 day weekend I'd like to do it soon before I head off to Virginia for work!!!

your harness from what i understand won't just plug and play with the 48re. its going to be a longer project than 3 days im afraid. you would have to pull your motor and all wiring for it. then swap it all to the 03, then after you do that, you have to figure out how to make the dash happy with the swap, which would be a lot of wire chasing and splicing which is extremely time consuming! then you run into all the nickel and dime things that always pop up with a swap of this nature. i would say go for it, i kinda want to do the same swap so i have the actual crew cab, but i don't have a hook up like you do , but keep in mind whatever time and money you think its going to take, tripple that and you are probabaly in the right balpark

I don't think it would be that baddd, yea is be goin from club cab to quad cab but long bed to short bed, I guess I can deal with it!!!! But the swap ill have both trucks sitting there side by side in my driveway and I'm an electrician by trade soo splicing isn't the problem I just need to find a vehicle schematic and it'll be all goood

well being an electrician will help, but the time that you think it will take i would definetly tripple that! a swap of this kind will always have a snag or two that was unexpected. i would guess if you worked full time on it, 4-5 days. but i like to take my time with things, getting things cleaned up, painted, and whatever work that may need to be done is much easier with the engine out! as for the different trucks thats not too bad of an issue, the drivelines can be modified easy enough but i don't think they will have to be.
