Default Manual Transmission Filter

Another thread about manual transmission filters sparked my interest. Would it be effective to build a remote mount manual transmission filter that uses an electric pump and a remote mount filter head with a spin on filter? I am thinking draw fluid from the bottom center hole in the pto cover and return through the top center pto cover hole. This seems like it would filter the fluid more thoroughly than the internal filters available. Has anyone done this, anyone have anything to add, or know why it won't work? I have included links to a couple of items for this filter. Does anyone know what the threads are for the pto bolts? Or a place to get some sort of small low pressure 12 V oil or fluid pump?

I believe the threads are 3/8-16 standard hex. As for a pump, I think I saw a low pressure unit at pepboys that would suit it.

Thanks Boss. I will check pepboys out.

Heck, could I just use my old stock lift pump? I already have it, it puts out a low pressure, it's free. Can the Carter pump oil?

I am having trouble finding fittings with the proper thread. Could I just drill and tap the cover bolts?

I would weld fittings into the cover if I were doing it. I wouldnt want to drill and tap my 5600 when parts are getting hard to find

I have been toying with this idea also. I was thinkingof also adding an oil cooler to the mix. I am not sure you are going to be able to get any flow thru the bolts though.

Yeah, I thought about it after I said it. Boss's idea about welding in fittings would be ideal. Where can one get steel pipe fittings?
