Whats the advantages of doing this over going aftermarket?

 

Are you talking stock turbos? Because there is no advantage of putting a 12v turbo on a 24v. They are very close to the 24v turbos which are either a hx35 or a hy35. If you are looking for a turbo that is alittle better than stock i would look into the BD Super B which is a good stock replacement turbo on these trucks.

 

Thanks for the reply Scott! I am looking to buy a 02 and it has a stock 12v turbo on it. It just sounded odd to me to go that route.

 

the 02 auto would've had an HY (54/58/9) where the later 12v would have an hx35 (56/64/12) not a huge difference but better. a 3rd gen '04.5-'07 has a HE351 (60/60/9) fast lighting & decent flowing for stock and cheap.
the "superB" is an S300G (57/65/14) and is a nice turbo on these trucks with mild mods.
