Advice on my hopefully soon to be first diesel
CK,
I would try and borrow a small code reader to take it along with you and do a quick check for codes. I would also inquire about the tranny and whether or not any work has been performed on it or if it is still stock. Just a couple of my thoughts. Good luck.

Fuel pressure and checking for codes (with a scanner) are the most important issues. Many guys sell/trade off trucks because of a dead injector pump.
Once you put a good lift pump on it the 24Vs are pretty reliable. With the oem lift pump - not so much. Be advised, even with an upgraded lift pump, you will buy a few lift pumps over the life of the truck.

deffinetly check out the tranny.. smell the fluid on the dipstick.. if it smells burnt, well you know. also ditch the 3" exhaust and go to 4 ". that will help. also does it have any gauges in it? pyro, boost..?
