Default adjusting valves

Will valves that are out of adjustment, say never been done etc be a probable cause for lousy mpg? like 8 - 14 mpg? I am starting to think after a year of driving her everyday, that I might have indeed bought another lemon. I have tried everything I can think of to change my driving habits to exclude that. and it does not seem to matter. at 65mph + empty = 14mpg. at 75 mph + empty = 11mpg, at 65 + loaded heavy(gvw 12,000+) = 8mpg

Anyone have any ideas? I'm about out.

I think they would have to be quite a ways out to make a big differance in MPG, but it couldnt hurt to check them.

It really should get better milage than that.

Check all your brakes and make sure their not sticking, check wheel bearings, do a front-end alinement check, When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
