Another lift pump question
Hi, I am new to the site and think this an AWESOME site! Great Info!!!
I have lots of questions about my truck......
Truck is a 2001 ext cab 4wd cummins... 164k, all stock except some ugly stacks that need to come off! oh and i just put on a glowshift 3 gauge pod with electric fuel pressure gauge, Egt, and boost.
Anyway the question is whether or not I need a new lift pump??? I've been reading lots of the threads already posted and it seems that everyone with a bad lift pump has some other problems... The truck runs fine... all the time! Cold weather... everything... The problem is my fuel pressure gauge reads about 9 or 10 at idle but will drop to 1 or 0.5 lb @ WOT!! I just rented a mechanical gauge from auto zone and it says about 7 @ idle but will drop to 2 just by stopping the throttle in park sittin in the shop... However like I said never have any problems with any shudder or anything... Runs smooth always fires up immediately when starting it! Also had auto zone scan the codes and the only code was 0234... over boost or something weird, only boosts 26 or 27... But anyway thats another discussion...
Money is very tight so I don't want to just buy a 400 to 500 dollar pump if I don't need to...( If I do have to buy a pump it will definitely be an airdog, fass, or raptor, cause i,ve heard that stock is junk...)
Any Advice??? Thanks!!!
I am looking forward to lots of answers and opinions from everyone!! Thanks

Anything below 10psi has a chance of damaging your VP. I also recommend an Airdog. I have the AD II 165 and love it. It has an adjustable fuel pressure to match your upgrades. If you do not want to pay the $100 (worth it!!) for the AD II I suggest you get the pickup tube upgrade kit the comes with the AD II. It will help you not to get air in the lines when it is at below 1/4 of a tank.

I am kinda in the same boat as you I was reading on here about the lp's on these things before I joined and really knew too much about them and ended up putting on a "stock" lp from napa in Oct 09 when i bought the truck cause i checked the fuel press and it was at like 4psi (didnt have gauges yet) and then got gauges for chirismas and found that my "new" pump was back down to between 5-3psi so got another pump under warranty from napa and now im up to 12psi but trying to save up for a Air dog So if you can I would just go for the FASS or the Air Dog right off and be done with it for me I dont have the $$$ yet but will be doing one hopefully before spring. Good Luck
