The E-brake on the trucks with rear disks uses the inside of the brake rotor as a drum. It has a couple shoes(just like a regular brake drum) that expand when you push the E-brake.

There is a slot on each brake that you can use to adjust your parking brakes. If you crawl under the truck you'll see a 2 slots on the back of each brake assembly. There is a little star wheel in there that you can adjust using a screwdriver( similiar to the AFC adjustment on a 12v). The adjuster is on the top on the drivers side and on the bottom of the passenger side on my truck.

Mine don't work worth a crap either. And wouldn't a line lock have to be energized to act as an E-brake? so that means once battery goes bye bye so does your truck?

Theres no reason he cant leave it in gear when its parked - he really only needs the line lock when its idleing - which was the original issue - wasnt it?

Mine holds fine with a set of 305 tires, that being said I adjust it every year if needed. You might want to check to see if one of the cables are broken or pinched.

Hit it dead on. I've been having problems with my ebrake not holding lately, and when I swapped out my tires for my winter treads, I went ahead and adjusted the parking brakes. Might need a flashlight to see it, but on the drivers side, look on the inside on the top of the assembly. There's a small rubber plug, that you can pull out, and then taking the screwdriver, roll the star wheel up, to tighten the brakes. The passenger side is on the bottom, and a little easier to get to, and you'll roll the star wheel down, to tighten. You want to make sure the back tires are off the ground, and the parking brake is NOT engaged. The procedure is simple, keep adjusting the star wheels to tighten, and then spin your back tires. If your back tire seems to be dragging on the parking brake, back the wheel off a bit, and you're good. Doesn't take long to do at all.
