Default Mileage woes

I don't under stand,

It seems lately that i am only getting around 8-10 MPG with my truck

When i first bought it, i was getting around 17-20 '

I'm sitting just under 1/4 tank, and only have 215 miles on the trip meter.

What is going on ?!

Do i need to do an IAT and Map sensor cleaning ? even if i don't have an exhaust brake ?

Or take out my BD boost fooler (which i think i was still having the low mileage issues without it any how )

Thats where I would start, at least clean those sensors. Could be VP trying to go out. Have you switched tire sizes lately? If so are you correcting the mileage for the difference in size? Could be a big difference there. Are you driving differently? My old job had me running 70+ on the highway, and my new job has me running 55 on state routes. My mileage has gone up from 13 to 17. Just a few things to think about.

Hows your boost pressure? Check your turbo boots, do you have a hole in one? VP-44 going bad--check for codes. What color smoke are you blowing after it warms up...If its white, you could have injector or VP-44 problems. There is a large list of what ifs, but probably related to air/fuel ratio not being right, or VP-44 not sending out the right timing. If the boost fooler is bad, it could be causing you to massively overfuel, and the stock turbo can't keep up, eg no power and lots of black sooty smoke. My first step would be to axe the boost fooler and take a reading on a 100 miles or so, and definately check for codes.

Fuel filter was replaced around 500-1000 miles ago, and air filter was cleaned at the same time,

I can top out around 35 psi of boost WOT, and it leaves more of a smog look rather than a black soot type trail '

Is there any write ups on MAP and IAT cleanings ? or is it just pretty simple crapola ?

I'm heading out on around a 200 mile trip tommrow, and i'll see what happens ,

There are no codes what so ever, I just had Cummins NW take a look at it and adjust the valves. Maybe between me installing the water pump ( and having to burp the system ) and them dickin around with it, it took alot more fuel than i'm thinking, But this isn't the only time i've gone through a tank this fast... 70 $ per 250 miles kinda hurts

Well if that don't beat all,

I pulled my IAT, and checked the resistance, and found the sensor to be bad.

Decided to check codes cause i started my truck with out the sensor in the engine ( just to let it maybe blow some stuff out )

And pulled

P0500- Speed sensor fault ( random )

E-0113 - IAT sensor to high ( set during or after i don't know )

and last but not least.. uhh duuuhhhhhhhh

E-0217 Engine overheat, ECU decreased performance

Goooooody two shoes.......

To the tune for 38 $ from dodge, a new sensor will be here tommrow, and i'll go from there.

Any thing else i should do while i'm in there ? on my list are IAT install, Fuel filter, clear codes and maybe a APPS reset again

Nick
