Default What is the carrying capacity of my truck

I am thinking about buying a 2005 Lance 915 slide in camper. Before I pull the trigger, I want to make sure my truck can handle the extra weight. I have two questions.

First
To determine the carrying capacity of my truck, I need to subtract the truck weight from the from the GVWR (8,800 lb). A web search says my 99 long bed weighs around 6140 lbs which would make my carrying capacity 2660 lbs.
Does 6140 lbs for a 99 QC LB Auto 2wd CTD sound correct?

Second
The camper weighs dry 2505 lbs: wet weight and loaded would top out at 3200 lbs (guessing). Can I update my suspension to accommodate the additional 695 lbs? How will my truck handle? (OK 3 questions)

Thanks
Greg

Im not entirely sure about the whole weight factor,(it sounds about right to me) I just know that the best way for your suspension to handle the extra few pounds is to add an airbag system. This gives you the extra support when you need it, and the stock ride quality when you dont.

I would leave the camper on the back of the truck permanently, easier to store in front of the house. Ride quality without the camper is not my primary goal.

Thanks greg, So if you were just going to leave the camper on the truck, then i would also suggest maybe going with a add-a-leaf instead of the airbag. Mine has airbags because i dont always haul heavy loads.

I hauled a good load of gravel yesterday (3/4" local river rock). Truck weighed in at 7520lbs with me in it. Loaded it up with to big scoops, pulled back on the scale and watched it hit 12020lbs !!! I was surprised. I do have a truck bed box and stack so the load was towards the rear. 4500lbs with no prob, truck rode like a caddy. ahahahhahhaa.

I'd say your weight sounds about right. 3200 lbs extra should be fine. You may want to look into some crazy stiff sway bars, better shocks, maybe some air bags. Then you can dial it how ever pleases.

thanks
I think I will go with the firestone air bag helper springs. My rig came with sway bars and added springs, the bags should reduce the sag and wandering feeling.

I've hauled the biggest campers that Northwood MFG builds with mom's truck,it rides smooth, and sits down a little but she don't have airbags or add a leafs or anything on hers.
I also hauled a 12' camper and a 30' travel trailer at the same time with my truck.
