Default Computer Problem?

Thought I would pick your brains. New to the site. Got a 99 Dodge Cummins, auto, 4wd w/ 250k on the clock. Truck had been running great till it just plain shut off, thankfully in my driveway. Will turn over but no start. I am a fanatic about fuel filter changes and I change the stock lift pump every two years whether it needs it or not. Once I got it in my shop, found the lift pump wasn't running and figured it took the VP44 out with it. It showed no codes. No engine light. Replaced the lift pump, new one doesn't run either. Checked the main fuel relay, it is good. Relay is not energizing. I jumped the contacts on the relay, nothing, but can hear the shut off solenoid clicking. With the contacts jumped and the lift pump hot wired, engine fires right up. Will only idle though, dead pedal. All engine gauges are non functional, no tach, oil press, voltage or engine temp. Intake heater is not working. I am leaning towards a bad ECM since all these functions are controlled there and it starts and runs with a little creative wiring. If it was a bad VP44 I assume it wouldn't run at all. Figured someone here must have come across this scenario before. Any help would be appreciated. Neither the VP44 or the ECM will be a cheap fix but would like to increase my chances of hitting the right one the first time. Thanks
