Dodge04, cummins 5.9,285k miles, auto trans, acts fuel starved when starting. After starting, it surges (idle peeks to 1000 rpm, then drops to normal) then runs rough for a while. After numerous tries it will idle ok, and drive. Then problem is intermitant. No power problems under load at highway speeds. Changed fuel filter, engine ran fine for 2 days and then it repeated behavior. Put in new filter, everything ok for two days. then problem repeated. Acts like fuel starvation... Tried opening the fill cap a crack for venting, and now seems to run ok. Any thoughts?

 

Mine has been doing the same thing for the past year or so. I figure its something with the injectors or pump, and thats next on my list to work on. When is surges I have to keep my foot hard on the brake, cause it will jump 6 feet on you.
