Just decided to switch to the cummins world. Former stroker.... Had my 7.3 apart enough times to be able to rebuild it in the dark. Just picked up a 99 5.9 with 180k. Where should I start? I was thinking new air intake and turbo back. Any cummins pros care to share some tips. Goal is to hit 450hp eventually while the funds come in.

 

First auto or manual. If manual replace the clutch with a southbend and it will handle 450HP, now the auto, you need to replace the valve body, TRQCON, and input shaft and replace the clutchs with heavy duty clutch's. Then upgrade your lift pump to something more reliable than the OEM pumps. Then get gauges and what every you want to reach your 450HP goal...
