Question Ball Joints

So I finally get my 2002 Dodge 2500 in to get the new turbo put in and I say to the dude, " picked up a real bad knock/banging in the front end on the way back from BD can you look at it"? "No prob I think it is the stock shocks from being extended so far after the levelling and the rough roads between here and there." "Cool, if it needs them throw 'em in" Just got the call. Needs freakin upper and lower ball joints both sides! Do both the L&R get done together because it makes sense to do them both or is it common for them both to need replacing at the same time??????

Thank you for moving the post, I was unsure where to put it as it really wasn't a diesel issue.

Just out of curiosity what did they quote you on replacing all of them? My buddy has an 01, and I don't have a clue how much his are going to cost, and knowing how much crap there is to move I told him I wasn't touching it.

AAhhh it's all a diesel issue. These trucks are hard on suspensions. That diesel motors weighs as much or more then any two gasser motors do. Just look around here in the 24V sections, there's been a few threads about Ball joints just here in the last day. Must be the time for them to be goin bad, it seems to happen in cycles.

As you read them you will see that most of us reccommend changing some other stuff while your in there even if your havin it done at the shop. It's a bear of a project to get to those ball joints so most of your problems or cost are gonna be incurred just gettin that far. If you don't fix the other stuff someplace down the line your gonna have to do the same tear down to fix the next part. Things like rotors, bearings, wheel studs and so on.

All of this is assuming your drivin a 4X4, I didn't notice in your sig where it said 2 or 4 wheel drive.

It was pretty vague as to the cost but I trust them to not rip me off. Keep in mind this is CAD dollars. 84.00 ea (x4) plus 3.5 hr labour each side. I think labour is 95.00 per hr.

Sorry, I will amend my sig is 4 wheel.

'Round here in TN... labor to change all four of them ranges from $200 to $450. I just got a whole bunch of quotes. That's just LABOR mind you. The joints'll set you back another $175-$250.
