Electrical starting problems
my 2001 cummins starts intermitantly. I turn the ignition and it makes 1 'click' sound then nothing. does not turn over. I repeat that process multiple times until the truck turns over and starts imedeatly. my batterys are strong and my battery conections are strong aswell. so im left with lose wires, or problems with my igniton, starter or solenoid. any ideas? very much appreciated.
try taking a hammer and giving the starter a few taps while someone is trying to crank it over...if it starts cranking after you tap it with a hammer then it's time for a new starter...
don't beat the **** out of it..just some mild taps. the idea is to basically rattle its cage

usually means the solenoid is bad on the starter. but they are usually sold as one unit even though you can get just one or the other, but it takes more time and effort than it is worth.
slap a new starter on there and you should be good to go
