I have a tarp that clips is, I leave the bottom half exposed and leave the tranny cooler open, and I have never overheated even towing, I got a little hot when I travled to arizona

 

I feel pretty stupid now, I never thought to leave it clear around the trans cooler. Hm. Well, unlike last winter, I have a trans temp gauge this year, so I think some further experimentation may be in order.

 

I put a 180 theromstat in my truck cause when I was towing it would run 220 and now it only runs 195.

 

Hey guys, my truck doesn't heat up either forever even when plugged in. Changed the thermostat and flushed the heater core still cold and hardly any heat. My next thought is the possibility of a weak water pump? Maybe an entire coolant system flush is in order also to make sure things are flowing properly.
suggestions??

 

I've thought of removing the fan and using an electric one that I can turn on once it get's up to temp, but I don't know how much it would speed up the process. You'd have to remember to turn it on too, unless it was on a thermo switch.

 

You should hear the block heater kick in, when you turn it on, if your not warming up, its One or two things. A bad thermostat, and or a bad water pump, the water pump is extreamly easy to replace a 10mm socket and remove the two bolts, so is the thermostat so if your gonna flush your system you can replace both parts or see if the water pump is still good. has an oring instead of a gasket so you can reuse it but I generaly just buy a new one for 2 bucks...

Think its 120 bucks for a new one, or less I bought mine for 89 bucks..

 

It was 51 bucks plus tax for a brand new one at o Reilly with lifetime warranty. Hoping to get it on before work tomorrow.

 

Okay so it wasn't the pump or maybe it was. haha turns out my radiator was way low. however there was coolant in my resivoir but it would not take any into the radiator. Not sure if this was a result of the pump or not. After changing the water pump I filled the resivoir up and stupid me didn't think to fill the radiator up too. It started overheating right away of course but still would not take in water from the resivoir. I finally filled the radiator up and now it works great. I have heat fast for a diesel.
