1993 cummins temp question
bought my first cummins six months ago and am hooked. but it seems my hydrometer was screwed up and my anti freeze froze up solid. thawed the truck not leaks except for a hose of two. truck runs fine but runs a little warmer than it used too. temp used to be a sixth the way up the guage under all empty driving conditions but now runs a third the way up but cools when i stop. it ocasionally fluctuates while i am driving too but it seems to be back and forth between a sixth and third way up. my truck has 250000 and want it to do another 250 but need to figure this out. did the waterpump and flushed the rad, only thing i can think of is the thermostat. two questions is a third way up the guage running hot? cause like this when i tow it will probably go to half if not more. and if its the thermostat were can i get one? do the cummins ones really keep it from fluctuating as much?

These gauges like to move around, mine did. Yes you must get a Cummins T-stat, the auto parts store junk most likely will not be sufficient. It wouldn't cool my 1st gen. My buddie just ordered a Cummins T-stat off Ebay, and when it came, it was NOT a Cummins T-stat. It was a junky knock off. When you get one, make sure it's from a reputable person, not off ebay. Just my .02 That's not the first person that has told me about knock offs packaged Cummins OE. WTF Not right

Yes they do. There are sponsors here that will surely get ya the right parts. Make sure you put your burp hole at the top on the T-stat or you'll be taking it back apart like I did Seems silly, but I had to jack the front end of my truck up real high in the air, while running to get all the air out of my system, it was the only thing that worked for me. Good luck
