Check your exhaust gaskets at the engine...

this seems to be more than an exhaust issue i think. Ill take a look though.

the sound it makes is like a snap and a click at the same time. like something hitting on something.

I really thought it was the ujoint because it was in really bad condition.

the rear end usually makes a clunking noise and you can feel it. i just put my drive shaft on my truck. cleared the noise right up and greased everything while i was at it. hopefully you find out what is making the noise and hope its cheap to fix good luck.

the rear seal on the transfer case has a seaping spot. the shaft has very little play around the rear of the transfer case. I can see my new fluid is seeping out of the seal.

the slip joint has a small amount of play in it as well.

do you think this little bit of play on the rear bearing is making the clicking?

I tried the truck in 4lo hubs not locked in and the clicking fades out but Im guessing that is because of the internals of the transfer case are moving slower. so that would lead me to believe it is not in the transmission which is good.

let me know your thoughts on the rear bearing and the slip joint. It prolly moves less than 1/8th of an inch ( the transfer case bearing ) the slip joint doesn't move that much but you can feel it wiggle.

Thanks

Yea that is my fear. I posted on pirate 4x4 to see if they had more input on the transfer case because that is their thing.

Im going to get the tick figured out. tomorrow im going to the transmission shop and see if he has time to take a ride and see what he thinks.

thanks

Carrier bearing if equiped can make the noise even if it looks good from the out side but other then that a dunno. open up your rear end and check the teeth. then tear open your transfer case, its not hard. they are very simple just get a manual or find one online. Good luck

Oh I know all about carrier bearings.

I used to have a sencond gen ex cab long bed lifted 6".

i changed lots of carrier bearings on it till i got the dumb thing set right. Then I sold it and got my 1st gen.

yea Im going to take the output bearing out tomorrow and check it over.
