The keyway is on the pump gear.

The key loves to fall into the gear case and is hard to line up.

The key should slide into the keyway with very little resistance. You shouldn't need to force the key into the keyway by tightening the bolt on the pump shaft.

That key is steel, but it can smash just fine and either advance or retard your timing by 10 degrees...

Simple trick for the key... Just put a drop of super glue on it and place it in the keyway in the pump shaft. This will keep it from falling out durinf assembly...

My key was wedged on the shaft so tight I thought it was attached. I was told to face the key straight up so it wouldn't fall out, worked well for me.

I wish I had taken better pictures when I did mine, but here is what I have. That little half moon in the gear is where the key goes, make sure that is on top when you pull the pump.

This is the best picture I have that shows the key. Its on the shaft.

I'm not sure if those help or not...

Lol, I just realized this is 2 months old, oh well. I'll leave it up anyway.

Sorry about bumping an old thread.
