Default Possible Trans Flexplate Issue...?

Hey guys...I have a 93 Turbo with Auto 2WD...

I have been driving this thing Without issues for 15k now....

The other day I drove it from home 15 miles away, and then back....Got in the thing 2 hrs later, and Suddenly I have an obnoxious New Rattle.... In the cab I sounded horrid...

I shut the truck off, looked under the hood and found nothing wrong....

I pulled the serpentine belt, and the Rattle is still there....if I rev the Motor, at about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle the Noise goes completely away...and as soon as I come off throttle, it is back....

Exhaust pipe sounds are normal....

I have not put it up on the rack yet, but it is sounding to me like the flex plate either broke, or has bolts coming loose....

Has anyone had this issue....?

I am afraid to drive the thing till I get it figured out....

Thanks in advance for any insight.....

just replaced mine a couple weekends ago,

crawl under it take off the inspection cover put a pry bar between the torque converter and the engine and pry it a little see if it moves very much, and i could see the cracks from just looking up in there.

If it sounds like two pieces of metal tapping together then it's most likely the flexplate breaking up. Your description sounds exactly like what mine did about a day before it went boom. Dars right the easiest way to check is to pull the inspection plate and have a look.

Ok, finally got to get the Pile up on the lift today....

Flexplate is Cracked out roughly half way around the Crank....

So Now the next question is....where to get a good Flex on the cheap....?

I have found the cummins version for 135.00 locally, but the cummins Store says they are on back order...?

Next step up seems to be aftermarket, for anything from 175.00 to 550.00

I am running stock converter and trans on stock motor, so I don't need anything super stout...

Any suggestions...?

I would go with stock if you're not goin to be putting any power to it. It's lasted since '93 till now, so it should hold for the life of the truck.

look up PATC transmission, i bought an aftermarket flex from them on ebay for 135 bucks. its thicker than the stocker... DO NOT ORDER the thicker one unless you also purchase their spacer kit. the thicker plate takes up the 1/16" or so of spacing that is required and will not work with out the spacer kit, however they sell completely stock flex plates too and they are also reasonably priced.

I found a 98 Stocker unit local for 100.00

I pulled the trans back and Found a totally K.O.'d Flexplate....

The one I pulled out was Identical to the new one....? So I am thinking someone had already been in here.....

Are you guys running anything special for AFT fluid...?

I dropped out about 5 qts...So I put synthetic back in.....

Thanks for the input , and help....
John.

JFYI you can have your converter machined down in the middle to accept the thicker plate.
