Default getrag problem

hey the @#$%% do I get the counter shaft out of my 93' getrag. I was towing friday and I have a new sound in the tranny. I pulled the tranny today but can't get the shaft out.

i had the same problem couldnt figure out how to get it out, its a real pain. the counter shaft has a shaft that runs inside of it maybe a half an inch thick or so and the berrings ride on this shaft there is a snap ring that is on each end that hold the berrings on. you take one of the snap rings off and go to town with a hammer and a punch dont be afraid to get a little western with it, it will fight you almost all the way out. and as soon as it comes out the counter shaft will slide right out. i hope i explained it good enough for you to understand. good luck. oh and be carefull with the rubber coated plug i believe you have to reuse it or i did anyways!

You have to get both bearing races out and maybe even the bearings if i remember right.

THats right I forgot about the races. They gotta come out but the berrings are ok tho one will fall off as you pound the shaft out and the other will go with the shaft

Oh yea the inner shaft that the bearings slip over actually slides inside of the gears.
