He obviously means cummins. They, like any other motor, have there good and bad but a lot of people love them and wouldn't buy anything else. i don't know many that hate them. Actually i'm switching my 6.9 IDI to a 5.9 12 valve. They're good engines. i'd buy it if the price was right and it drove good. Just check for what you'd usually check for like oil or other fluids dumpin all over. Check the gauges while you drive it. listen for noises. that kind of thing. oh and if you live in a state where there is snow in winter and they salt the roads check for major rust holes or body panels that dont line up and put the tailgate down and try to shake the side of the bed a little. A little slop aint bad but if the bed is gone you'll know.

After reading Prisons post talking about rust in snowy/salty places a common problem for Cummins is oil pans rusting out, not the easyest fix.

ah but the oil pan rusting out isn't just a cummins problem. i had a ford f150 with a 5.0 in it. oil pan was leakin. bought a cherry picker, lifted the engine, unbolted the pan. ubolted the pump and switched it out. its not too bad
