Default Electric pump?

My lift pump was getting weak a while back (0-1psi under full fuel) so I ate the 150 bucks and just replaced it... However, i replaced it with a stock type diaphragm unit (just for the ease of instalation as compared to the 2nd gen piston pump + regulator and such, or a big money setup like an Air Dog)

The issue with it all is that even the new pump will only hold 3-4psi with my boot on the board

So now, im starting to eyeball a couple of regulators that are lying around, lookin for a means of feeding the old pig with a steady 5 or 6psi. The question of the day is: will any electric pump move diesel? one would assume that with diesel being a lubricant as opposed to a solvent (gas) like most of these inline pumps are made for, it would actually work better right? Am I way off on that theory? And if it will push diesel without issue, how do you guys think it would do in the winter when the diesel thickens up some?

The best combo of cheapest and reliable I have found is a Walbro 392 and Mallory 4307M regulator...

I would assume that it would be more cost effective than the electric or the second gen with a reg. But I'm sure there are some on here that have previously priced out different options, maybe they can share some knowledge.
