i'd recommend getting the low pressure piston LP from cummins. $186 when i bought mine last august. i've been told the low pressure LP is good for about 400hp.

You can use a 2nd gen piston lift pump, but you have to use some type of regulator to turn the pressure down. The advantage is they are cheaper. You will blow the seals out of your injection pump somewhere around 18psi.

There are at least three different relief springs for the piston pumps: 10, 15 and whatever the 2nd gen pump is, probably 30 or so.

Hmm do you have part numbers for them by any chance?

No, and there's 2 different bore sizes as well, but I believe all the springs should be interchangeable. I got a pump off eBag last year, not sure what it was for, maybe an AG or stationary application, probably the 10psi pump I suspect. Anyways, what I plan to do is take it apart and compare with my known 15psi 3220 currently on the truck one of these days if I ever get around to it. If and when I ever need to fix that pump, I will take it to Cummins and ask for a rebuild kit, which should have the correct spring, based on the pump part#. Maybe just seals, dunno yet. But in any case, I'm hoping my spare pump is a large bore pump and I can just put the 15psi spring in it.

Don't count on finding a rebuild kit for a lift pump.

That's why I have a spare!
But I do recall seeing where the kits were available, at least at one time...
