I ran around 250 horsepower on my stock transmission, manual valve body and Goerend's converter for a year or so. The transmission never acted up; I replaced it when a band wore to the point that it was locking up from 1st to 2nd, but that band was worn to the point that it couldn't be adjusted properly when I first got the truck several years before that point. And I think that manual valve bodies don't make a band's life any easier, and a torque converter makes the transmission much more likely to break.

General rule of thumb, I wouldn't worry too much about a transmission on any first gen with stock injectors or stock turbo, but I wouldn't be shocked when one breaks something minor and eats up its aluminum planetaries after 30,000 miles either. But I wouldn't be surprised if a stock transmission with a stock engine eats its planetaries after 30,000 miles either...

a 518 is pretty much a 727 for the most part. so yes it will bolt up as long as the splines counts work together. but why use a 727 for a diesel? they arent made for them

the first cummins dodges had a 727. if i understand it right a 518 is a 727 with overdrive bolted to the back. on the other hand, a 47RH is a big step with case improvements and lockup converter just to name a few. if ur buildin from scratch and gotta have an automatic, u want a lockup TC for sure

Chrysler saw fit to put them behind 440s and 426 street hemis making way more power than the Cummins 5.9. They are excellent slushboxes.
