it was a prior family member who owned truck and about 7-8 years ago we put a nv4500 and a 91 transfer case in I have had the truck about 3 years and all was well then bang....stopped working ...the vss was the 2 pin type and I tried a new one 60$ and still nothing....what I am looking for is if anyone knows what I should be reading on the 2 wires back to the dash... ohms, volts, closed continuity ,open ...???? also 4-5 weeks later the ecm voltage reg failed and I installed the by-pass reg trick ....that's: another problem see my other posting on that issue..... otherwise its the best truck i ever had!!!!!!!and the last ....

well the vss sends a pulsated signal to the PCM. it goes by a certain number of pulses per mile. if your ecm failed the voltage part and now your speedometer doesnt work, id maybe look into a pcm issue. the only only thing that could be wrong really is a wiring problem, if your vss is new as you say it is

It looks like it has something to do with my failing ECM .....I tried putting my old vss and new vss in a cordless drill on low speed and put my meter on ohms it appeared to read the same as i changed speeds on the drill with booth units reading consistent means my old vss is still good plus i hear those vss 's fail in the open position reading no continuity ........also found a good wire schematic for 1st gen and it clearly shows the wires going through the ecm .... and yes a Gps will be in the near future for speed and I already installed a hobbs hour meter for oil change times.....I guess ill do 3500 mi on the gps and match it to hrs and use that # as a reference

does anyone else out there use an hr meter...if so what would be a good # to do oil changes at ......since iv had the truck/last rebuild.. bin doing 3500K w/filter using rotella oil....I will be taking readings with a meter this week-end on a 90 1st gen that's VSS is working and compare to mine.....If i find anything will post how to and what reading you should get across wires back to dash....Im leaning towards ECM ng

If anyone is interested in having their speedometer/odometer repaired, we have any excellent speedometer/instrument repair shop in Greensboro, NC. I've used them since the 1970s for everything from Studebakers, Volvos, Mercedes, and yes, my 1991 Ram 250 with Cummins engine. I can provide contact info for anyone requesting it. Good luck.
