First off get yourself a pyro, boost and fuel pressure guage then get ready for a long slippery slop of FUN. There is a ton of free mods that can be done to make these trucks run like a raped ape. You will also want to do some research and get yourself a 3200 gov spring to allow the motor to rev higher before it defuels. That by itself makes it feel like a completely different truck. I'm sure someone else will chime in and give you more spacifics.

even with out the 3200 spring (same thing as the 366 sping) pump mods alone and linkage adjustments can made a led horse gallop. as free89W350 said... alot of free upgrades... good news is; you have an 89 ALOT of power can be put into these trucks with little mods. when they intercooled the trucks they reduced injector size. so for beginner mods you dont even have to worry about injectors. they flow plenty. poke around the forums. there's a little bit of everything on pump mods. (smoke screw, full fuel screw, rotate the diaphragm (which is connected to the fuel pin), turn the starwheel down. switch linkage holes (decreases leverage but increases travel) remove the high idle screw, index the throttle shaft, bump the timing, make sure your getting full linkage travel with the pedal to the floor (factory cables have a little bit of slop in them) ALL of that is FREE... i've heard there is up to 100 extra horse sitting in the stock injection pump that isn't turned loose... but you have to beware that all the fuel mods (depending on how crazy you go) you HAVE to upgrade the turbo... also with cutting the fuel loose it is very easy to reach the supply capacity of the lift pump... the 366 spring is reallll bad about this... this means that timing is retarded, pump runs out of fuel (which lubricates everything) and the pump will try to suck its own supply of fuel rather than it being provided and air can get past the throttle shaft seal... it just spells problems. so once you get your gauges then you can have at it... once your fuel pressure starts to die to about 5 psi let up off the go pedal abit... good luck and these old trucks are a blast

and to address the air intake... most guys love the BHAF and old smokey mount... alls it is; is a quite abit larger than stock air filter, and sheet metal mount... as for guys that don't have the money like RIGHT now for that; "swiss cheesing" the intake box is very popular. just cut as much of the box out as you want... as long as it has someplace sturdy to mount the intake piping and filter you'll be good to go. and the harder to find stuff... is exactly that... harder to find; so most guys stay in the bloodlines, they just channel different generations... quite aibt is interchangeable... trust me if there is a question you have... it has probably already been answered or explained

last thing... you can also replace the fuel pin that is attatched to the diaphragm with an aftermarket one... and as of right now M&H is a brand new sponsor to the site and to promote business M&H and diesel bombers have decided to host a give away for the first gen guys. M&H has some really good fuel pins and they're going to give away a fuel pin of a members choice. locate the contests and giveaways page and click their giveaway. RSWORDS has already posted a thread here in the first gens to promote the event. he has a quick link where you can find out more. and make sure your profile and contact information is complete... it's immediate DQ if it isnt. welcome to DB and good luck.
