transmixer problem
Ok im buyin a 91 w250 this weekend and i took it for a ride. When you have it in forth or nay lower gear it is no problem to shift down. But when you put it into fifth gear you cant shift it down unless you come to stop. After that you can take off again. It will also get stuck in fifth like th shifter in in the nuetral location put you let the clutch out and its still in fifth. So itried to put it in to second put it back in nuetral then back to second and it was workin fine again. Now with this trucki bein one of my friends truck. ive worked on it. we put a new top on the trans with shift forks and it didnt solve the problem.
we figured one was bent or something. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Also if you know any place where i can get parts for this trans would be really helpful to. TIA

On my 93 my shifter would pop out of the fifth position, and in order to shift out of fifth I had to push the shifter to the right and back in,and pull it straight back out of fifth, not at an angle.Drove it like that for two years no prob!
that is a problem with the 4500's not teh getrags. Have ou checked the fluid? If your looking at buying the truck I would just assume teh trany is shot and figure that into what you want to pay.
I would try to get the price down for sure.Doesn't necessarily mean the transmission is shot, just needs a rebuild kit for the top cover. That should knock 6 or 700 hundred off the price. If you can get a good deal and the rest of the truck is tight,I'd say go for it.I've seen more than one getrag tranny do the 5th gear pop out.If it ain't grinding or squealing it's probably good.91 had a getrag tranny. If it has been converted to NV 4500,it's your lucky day!
