Default Transmission problem

1991 1 ton 4X4 with the 4 speed automatic transmission, has the push button to cut off the overdrive.
Yesterday it started to act kind of odd and would not shift into 3rd gear. Fluid is good, does not appear to be burned etc. Had to really stay hard on the throttle to get it home.
Had to run out this morning and it started to not want to go at all, then seemed to run fine up the hill. But then it decided it did not like 2nd gear or reverse but 1st and 3rd were fine. Engaging the overdrive cut out did not seem to want to work either. Was able to get it to back up by giving it some throttle.

This is the first vehicle I have ever owned with an automatic in it so I'm pretty much lost.
I called the local transmission "expert" and talked to him. But when I had to explain to him that according to the manual the only thing electronic on the thing was the overdrive and him apparently being confused I gave up any thought of having him look at it.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

sounds like the bands are either way loose or fell off the drum and maybe even broke tighten the bands first and go from there

I'm trying to find a manual on the thing and the only thing that is avaliable tells me pretty much nothing. I only have 89,000 miles on the thing I would sure hope they were not broken yet.
Any direction you, or anyone else, could give on adjusting the bands?
Thanks

if you can find a haynes manual it shows you in very good detail i might add theyre probably just loose or the vb has something in it

Ok, looks like tightening the bands is not a major issue (unless you consider the 6 or so inches of snow we are expecting a "major issue")
What is the "VB" that might have something in it?
Can't find anything in the manual that might have those initials.
Thanks

Ok, anyone got an idea on what size the kickdown adjustment bolt is?
I've tried both metric and standard and none of them fit.
Do they make a socket (square) just for this purpose?

Ok, and one got any idea what the following two pictures are of?
Obviously it being in the bottom of the pan is not good. Any clue as to what it is, how to replace it etc?
Thanks
