Default Another auto to manual...

Ok did some searching and did not find the answer i was looking for. On my 93 with the 518, i have a line on a getrag with flywheel, clutch, bell and all the rest except master which is no problem for free, question is, is it worth swapping it for the 518? I know the NV is way better but i am fresh out of $$ right now and it will be some time before i am able to pony up for a NV. and the 518 is sketchy at best. All i have done to it now as far as upgrades is a #2 fuel pin, timing bumped up, starwheel and fuel screw turned up, and the 14cm exhaust housing, so not a real big jump in hp. What do you think ya or nay?

i wouldnt do it is the tranny blown? if not ride it out save all that money and look for a used nv im sure you will come across one right after you put that 18 in and kick yourself dont settle for anything get what you want or it will bite you in the *** for sure!!

I'm putting a Getrag in a nice 2002. They have a bad rap but if you look up the ratings I've found the reason is a lack of parts and hard shifting. The parts are no longer hard to get and the shifting can be corrected by using synthetic oil and overfilling through the shifter hole 1 1/2 qt. My buddy has 450K on his. It was getting rough but has been getting better with age since adding the synthetic oil. He wouldn't trade it for an NV. With the NVs you have the weak 5th gear that often causes problems

I picked up the parts and the trans looks to be in pretty good shape, just found the pedals and steering column so once i get the flywheel resurfaced and a new disc it is on!
