Question Brake Fluid Leak

My rear brake fluid leaks maybe an ounce or two every 400 miles. I inspected the lines and found evidence of leakage where the brake fluid line connects to the right rear wheel. So I tried backing out the connection and found I didn't have the necessary tools (just a crescent wrench). I then decided to take it in to a shop. I was expecting a simple fix no more than $300, dude calls me and says my wheel cylinder fluid is mixing with my brake fluid and contaminating it and I need to replace my wheel cylinder, well, both wheel cylinders and then flush the brake fluid...$900 something. I don't even know what a wheel cylinder is but I suspect this guy is trying to sell me some true coat so I get my truck back and post here instead. Any help would be much appreciated and I'd love to fix this thing up and make a video of it.

Your wheel cylinder is what accuates the brakes so of course it is gonna have brake fluid in it. The only thing I could think of that he might have meant is that your axle seal was leaking fluid into the drum housing but I think it unlikely that it would mix with the brake fluid. I have a similar issue on my one ton and already have the new wheel cylinder it was 25 bucks at oreillys and just have not taken the time to fix it yet. I know it is recommended to flush brake systems and refill with new fluid periodically but I can't say as I have ever known anyone that has done this yet. Either he used the wrong terms or like you said he is tryin to fill you full of the brown stuff. IMHO
