Default .040 piston pertrusion

Will a .020 thicker head gasket take care of the problem ? I had to have .015 taken off the top of the block to clean it up so I now have a pertrusion of .040 ! My new gasket at its thickest point around the metal ring for each piston is .095 thick ! and the gasket material is .055 thick !
My question are the thicker Cummins gaskets have a thicker base material plus a thicker ring?
