NV5600 swap

I would like to ad that in this application the truck being adapted was already a 5 speed Getrag so some of the conversion was already taken care of. One other point I would like to bring up is that the automatic has a 23 spline output shaft, where I think the Getrag is 29 spline. That said the NP205 t-case in your truck wouldn't work. It is pretty cool that there is a 205 that will bolt up to a NV5600 with no adapter though. Awesome write up in that thread, it was very conclusive.

They also make a 23 spline to 29 spline adapter.

I did the auto to NV4500 swap, with what I found, it is way cheaper to do the NV4500 but i'd love another gear, I really want a NV5600 with a splitter and have 12 forward and 2 reverse, the more the better right?!? Also, if you have the NP 205 transfercase behind the auto trans, you have a 23 spline output on the trans and a 23 spline input on the t-case. You can't actually upgrade the shaft without upgrading the housing of the t-case because the hole around the shaft bearing isn't big enough but I did the 23-29 spline adapter and it worked out great! I put my NV4500 in about 14 months and 35,000 miles ago and everything has worked flawlessly, my build is here:

Good luck! Like the other build said, well worth it, but I don't know if I'd want to do another one although it would be much easier the second time around. Its quite a bit of work, and I'd definitely want to do it on a lift, I can't imagine wrestling those heavy trannies in on the ground...

Contrary to what people would have you believe, you can upgrade the 23 spline NP205 to a 29 spline, you just have to know a good machinist.
Furthermore, the 29 spline input is available NEW for ~$105 and the accompanying 29 spline coupler for ~$30.
For ~$350 in parts and machine work, you can have a cheap 2 spline NP205.
You just have to know the places to get the parts and a machinist.
Mark.
