Default white smoke

Okay I'm gonna go through the whole story. My 90 model had a bad injection pump leak. I found a rebuilt one with 3200 gov spring, all the screws turned up a little. I put it on and when I started it, it was white smoking ungodly. It sputtered and backfired. So I just thought air in the lines. Well the next morning it wouldn't start at all. I had to hook up battery charger and tiny shot of ether. It done same thing, smoke and backfire, and sputter. So guy I got it from said sounds like timing. So I adjusted the pump, I barely got it to budge, but the little I did adjust it helped a lot. It stopped sputtering and backfiring, ran strong and would spin the tires on asphalt. Well I just left it there. But now everytime I start it, it white smokes a lot, warms up a little then a haze then it all goes away. Its not been really cold yet. Ill start it, let it warm up, cut it off and 20 minutes later start it then it smokes again???? Do I need to adjust the time more? Anybody know how to adjust it easier. I could barely move it last time. Or is this normal for a turned up pump?

Default Timing

White smoke is a sign of poor combustion. Is there a kerosene or diesel smell to the smoke?
When you say you adjusted the pump I figure you mean you loosened the bolts and turned the pump.
My guess is you maybe a tooth out when fitting the pump and turning it has got it closer to were it belongs.

Kinda diesel smell. I'm gonna hook up ksb switch and take it to a diesel shop and let them time it.

Definitly incorrect combustion then.
Having changed the pump it is most likely timing unless the pump has problems.
Good luck and post the cure.

I still think its timing. The little I did adjust it helped a lot like I said. It still has adjustment on pump time. But I'm taking it to a diesel shop and they have a tool they hook to pump to time it. I'm also gonna run the ksb switch to a toggle switch because it not hooked up. Ill let you know. I'm taking it Wednesday.

Don't hook your KSB to a switch that's 91.5-93's only they have different ksb setups. Loosen off the pump bolts put a ratchet strap on the afc housing over to the pass side fender n ratchet it over a bit then tighten up the nuts n take off the strap.

Well I've heard people hook them up. My old pump had the wax style. Should I try more time before I take it somewhere? I'm confused now, I thought you could take a hot wire from a power source to toggle to the ksb?
