46re/h to manual conversion
PITTSBURGH,PA-Willing to drive 200-300 miles to get what I need. Cash.
Hey guys, new member to the site, but a big fan. Yins have no idea how much you all have helped me in projects and fix-ups . I know a bit about diesels but theres always something new to learn.
Anyways,
I have a 93 W250 with the 46re(rh..idk which one it technically is)
I'm looking to buy the parts to convert to a g360 or prefferably an nv4500.
Even better would be a parts truck. I can rebuild the tranny just let me know whats wrong in it.
Also, any input is welcome. I've read a bit on the conversion threads but by no means am I an expert. This truck was my first ride, built it myself.. Damn autos just dont hold up to power , pushing 250hp and looking to get around the 500 mark. If anybody wants to see it just ask and i'll post a picture when I get a chance to take a good one.

Actually, it can with swapping in a lock-up stator support, converter and associated valve-body.
Chrysler changed their transmission identification during the A518/A618 production runs. The non lock-up A518 (both diesel & Gasser) became 46RH. The lock-up A618 (Diesel/Gasser) to 47RH.
The only prominent differences in the diesel and gasser A518 and A618 are in the governors and planetary gear-sets (beefier). The cases were also reinforced subtly.
Remember the A518, A618, 46RH, 47RH &RE as well as the 48RE are all based on the proven 727 transmission but with an overdrive section added.
The new transmission identification system works as follows:
46RH = 4 speed, 600ft/lb rating, Rear wheel drive, Hydraulic control.
47RH = 4 speed, 700ft/lb rating, Rear wheel drive, Hydraulic control.
47RE = 4 speed, 700ft/lb rating, Rear wheel drive, Electronic control.
48RE = 4 speed, 800ft/lb rating, Rear wheel drive, Electronic control.
For the most part, all internal components are interchangeable including those from the earlier 727.
For example, while looking at my trans, outwardly, it's a run of the mill 46RH (A518). Internally however, it's a 48RH.
That is inaccurate.

The case is different between the A518 and A618 the port for lock-up is not there on a A518 diesel. And the bolt pattern is different between a A518 gas and diesel unless it's the A518 V10 gas trans. A518 46RH trans behind a V8 318 or360 isn't the same case. Sorry BC847 worked on them at the dealer for years they are not the same.
