Fixed my KDP , will my timing be off , can I time with cover on ?
I just fixed my KDP and thought I was being so meticulous . I was being so careful to keep and not move the gears . Then , I became obsessed with tightening the two cover bolts behind the cam gear . I started rotating the engine , not even thinking that this may throw off my timing . I put the timing cover back on , went to put the dampner on , and then it dawned on me , there is no tab on dampner , my timing must be way off .
This is the first diesel I've worked on , so please be forgiving . Is there a way I cam make sure my dampner is correctly in place without having to remove the timing cover ? Many thanks in advance !!

Unless you removed any of the gears when you had the front cover off, you don't have to worry bout the timing. Balancer doesn't affect timing, just make sure crank sensor is gapped correctly
