Long week accomplished! And with much success! We got the computer back, but it didn't work.
HOWEVER! I was extremely upset, and my Dad and I ended up in an argument about what we were going to do. I wanted to go with Suncoast and do the standalone controller, and he wanted to keep trying on the current route. And he decided that at the end of this weekend we would make our move.
Well, today she took her maiden voyage! Overdrive and all!
The transmission relay wasn't kicking on, and it was because they reverse the ground/positive signal from 98 and 2001. 2001 was supposed to have a hot and 98 was supposed to have a ground. We grounded one wire and SHAZAM! Then we ran into another small problem, the TPS was jacked up. The unit itself was brand new, but apparently there is a little adapter that is supposed to turn the TPS, and we don't have that adapter? So we made one.

Works like a charm too! I'm still considering doing the POTentiometer mod, but for now I'll take what I can get.
And I apparently need to get something else too.

The banjo bolt has a nut that goes inside of it and, well to be honest I don't know exactly what that nut was for, but if it isn't there, then it leaks fuel like no body's business. So I'm probably about $30 short on fuel and I might be walking to the diesel parts place tomorrow. Thankfully, now that I live downtown, it should only be an hour or so walk. It all depends on my room mates.
Anyways, the truck is basically done, and even with this setback, I'm very happy with her! In some of the conversations I've had, she has been called Frankenstein, so I think that will end up being the name. I may shorten it to Frank, an old friend from Florida (ironic that that's where the truck came from in the first place!).
ROCK ON Y'ALL!!!

Hey Jeff, i didn't notice an update in your thread until now...

I was almost right with the "bent valve" suggestion, at least it had something to do with the valvetrain...

I hope all goes well with your truck in the future, you seem to be over the steepest hill...

Do you have any more pictures to show?

I'm very interested in how your truck looks now...

This is where i'm at right now:

The 360 gasser will be pulled out tonight and i will fit my Cummins in tonight aswell...

Then it's off to the exhaust shop to fit the new clutch & install the transmission and transfer case...

I'm going to start out with my 9.25" rear end and see how far it takes me before it blows up on me, since it has 3.55 gearing instead of the 4.10 in my D80...

Eventually i intend on swapping my D80 rear & D70 front...

Yep, it really does seem like it's near the end, for at least a daily driver set up. I'll post some pictures when I get back to my apartment. I'm at the diesel shop getting that banjo bolt right now. I had to walk no big deal. Half an hour there, an hour back (my apartment is further than college). I'll take some more photos when I get back.

This is why i set my truck up with a wastegated HX40 over a HX60, i wanted stock driveability with the option of gazillion horsepower and gazillion billion newton metres when i get on it

I wanna do an RCSB swap soooo bad haha. I'm loving my truck though. It has so much power. And to make the obsession worse, my previous vehicle was a 95 jeep wrangler with a 4 cylinder 5 speed manual, and before that an 88 Chevy 2500 with a 350 smallblock. This is like a dang race car to me! Lol I am trying to be gentle though. Don't want to break anything haha.
I promised pictures a few hours ago and college consumed me before I got Round to it, but here's what I can give you until tomorrow:

I don't know if I'll ever go so far as twin turbo, but you never know
I think this hx35w will hold me over for awhile until craigslist produces something better ya know. More tomorrow y'all!

Well, hope you guys like my truck, cause I sure do
However, I don't have a working fuel gauge at the moment
I think it is the actual gauge in the dash. Here's why: When it got low on fuel the other day, the little idiot proof light came on and the truck dinged telling me I needed to get fuel. However, even after filling up, the gauge itself didn't move an inch. Is there any way to test the gauge to see if it's that or some kind of wiring problem? If not I guess I'll have to buy an aftermarket gauge.
Next upgrades in the making (when I start working again): Headlights, Death Wobble fix [I want my 35's soooo bad], gauges, stereo and two front speakers, a new bed and tailgate, headbolts from Mighty Diesel or ARP studs, and a bigger turbo. That's really all I can think of haha. Unfortunately it may be awhile before I actually can get any of that stuff, this thing was expensive to even get running!
I'm afraid to go through the receipts
Keep rockin y'all!

Had a funny little problem with my truck last night. My gauge lights wouldn't turn on, and found it was a blown fuse. I thought it might have been one of the wires inside the engine compartment, but it turns out there were some bare wires touching underneath the bed. Got it all fixed up, problem solved!
But apparently I used a bad fuse at one point, because the dang thing MELTED instead of blowing! It took me almost ten minutes just to pull it out
I've messed with the tps a little bit to try to adjust overdrive and lock up, but it's not doin much. A POT is definitely in the mix soon.

I have been doing some driving, doing some research, some burnouts, some pump/afc tuning, and a whole lot more research. All of this research has shown me that I would really like some other little upgrades to help improve fuel economy on my truck. I just read on another forum that, with 4.10 gears, this guy could run 55-60 and get 19-21 mpg, and running 60+ he was getting 11-13. Pretty insane difference. I'm going to try to keep from running above 60 this week and see if it is even a little true. If that's the case, then I'm going to be looking for some 3.55s.
However: I'm not very happy with how my lockup acts. It doesn't stay locked up unless my foot is in it just enough to basically speed. I'm new to lockup transmissions, but this just doesn't seem right to me For instance, being an automatic, there is a certain point that the throttle can be pushed that will let the truck just cruise. However, there is no lockup unless I push the throttle in another 3/4 inch. And if I let out of that extra 3/4 just a teency bit, BAM, lockup goes away. It drives me insane! Is this how it is supposed to be, or do I need to keep trying to tweak my TPS or linkage?
Until then, y'all!

Well, my valves started to slip again. At least one of them. The front valve slips just a little bit over time. Thankfully I caught it before it got bad this time. While I was messing around with it I re-configured my idle speed, and an hour later I figured out why my truck kept idling so high. The linkage was so tight that the idle screw on the back of the pump couldn't back far enough out to turn the motor idle down. To put it another way: the idle screw only turns the motor down so far, and because the linkage was basically pulling the throttle, the idle screw could only make the idle higher. So I reset the linkage to not pull the throttle at all, so it is completely relaxed, and now the idle screw has an effect. Quite possibly the most pain my knees have felt.
Also, there was something I never planned for with my short exhaust:

The smoke blacks out my rim. My buddy actually ask me if I spray painted that rim

I guess I'm possibly going to order my gauges this weekend

And I am considering only buying the ARP main stud kit for my truck. It's like half the price of a whole kit and supposedly will be about as good. Any thoughts/suggestions?
