Default Pinion Seal

ok i have a dana 80 rearend and my pinion seal is leaking do i have to remove the pinion completely by terring the whole rearend apart or can i just pull the seal. ive pulled a dana 70 apart back in september so it wont be that hard just time consuming, just wondering if i could pull the joke and then just the seal

Yessir, Pull the yoke and pry that seal outta there.

most if not all trucks you can pull just the yoke to change the seal.....

If it was my truck, I would also install a speedy sleeve on shaft where seal goes.
There is no way to effectively polish that area with shaft in truck.

basically you install a sleeve over where the seal surface rides on, so it has a nice new surface to seal against.

Most oils seals will wear a groove in the suface of what ever they seal against, and if you don't either polish this out or install a sleeve, alot of the time the new seal won't seal properly.

make sure to torque the nut afterwards. the most thorough way is to pull the carrier and torque the nut, check the preload and then put the carrier back in and check all that junk too. but i never do that unless i am replacing the r&p. it's kinda like flushing the radiator or checking tire pressure every month, supposed to but never do.

im not going to pull the whole rearend apart it was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago befor i bought it
