Default 93 rearend in my 98

Will a 93 auto rearend with 3:55s go in my 98 5spd that has 4:10s.I like the power of the 4:10s but id rather get better mileage and not be at 2500 rpm goin
70.both are 2wd.

the axles on the 2nd gens are wider than those one the firstgens.so no you can't just swap them, but the gears will fit from one housing to another.i blew my 01 gear set and used the set from my 89 to replace them.

How much narrower are they? That might be the ticket for running 10x16 wheels on the back of my twd and keep the tires under the fenders. I wouldn't mind 3.07 gears also, might help the milage on trips.

i'm not sure how much narrower they are but the 2nd gen trucks are wider & i run 10x16s on both my 01&89 the 89 tires are under the fenders, the 01 they stick out 2in's.plus i don't know if the spring perches would work without cutting them off and relocating them.the angle may be diff too.it would be easier to have an axle shop change gear sets & if you can swing it have them tighten up your posi unit so your not doing one wheel peel burn outs.

Default 93gears

after rethinking this no i don't believe the 3.07's will work in the newer axle.in order to use 3.07's in my 89 i had to change the housing.the pinon is in a diff. location.if it were a 3.55or 3.73 it would work.i had my buddy put the 3.55's from my 89 in my 01 axle when i blew the gear set in it.i can check with my friend if you'ed like but i do believe the make like a 3.12 set that will fit in your 98.
