Default Turbo Rebuild Problem..

I almost have my center section put back together now, The last thing that is needed is to put the metal sealing ring on the shaft in front of the turbine wheel. I have gone through 3 now trying to put this thing on, I can get it on the shaft, but when I try to slide the shaft into place in the center section, the metal seal won't compress any of those times, so it ends up bending all weird, still not sliding into place...I've gotten so frustrated with this, and I just wan't this thing to finally come together,

I tried buying another metal seal at Dodge but they only sell them in the kits...

Any help is much appreciated!

Not yet

I don't understand what is going wrong, I thought maybe where the seal sets on the shaft might have grime in their, but cleaned it good with a pick leaving nothing behind. I don't understand why the seal isn't compressing right when sliding the shaft through the center section...

i rebuilt one a month or so back and had to file a bit of the metal ring so it would compress far enough to slide through the center section.

Did you file down the ID or OD of the seal? and right now I'm having the trouble of finding another seal.. the only ones I've seen only come with the rebuild kit, which I already purchased and went through them..

the clip is like a snap ring. so in my case the clip is like a C almost closed into a circle. i filed the C out a little bit farther just a tid bit so that it would compress farther and allow it to slid into the center section. if you have one that over laps you have to be more carful when you go filing there are 2 parts to file.

DO NOT DO ANYTING TO THE ID OR OD OF THE CLIP! make it so the ring can compress farther so the ID and OD change when you put pressure on it.

Basically like filing the end gap for piston rings.

The problem seems to be that the width of the seal might be to tight, because it doesn't press into the shaft as much as it should...

And does anyone know where I can get just that metal seal?
