Default Heater block question?

I have a 96 12valve cummins and it's my first winter with it and I was wondering how long do I need to have it plugged in for? And how long can you have it plugged in and it not do any damage? Thanks

Would it hurt to leave it plugged in from about 9 at night to 6 in the morning?

The only thing it will hurt is your electric bill , I know a guy that leaves his plugged in for weeks at a time.

Okay. Another question is I'm still on high school and I was wondering I live in Ohio and it gets extremely cold in the winter, if it sits out in the parking lot in the winter for 6 hours will it even start?

I live in Trenton Ohio by Cincinnati, I have a ford powerstroke, I plug mine in at night after work until morning. I work shift work and sometimes work a double or 16 hrs and my truck will start, and I think I have bad glow plugs. You'll be fine for 6 hours

If the intake heaters are working it should start. It won't sound too happy, but it will start. I've started my truck as low as -20*F without being plugged in. If you want something that can warm up the engine without being plugged in, and can afford one, an Espar is unbeatable.

Okay thanks a lot for the help. It's my first winter with it and I was just making sure. Do I need to put any additives in the fuel?
