There's yer problem... Needs to be @ about 800 in Drive w/ ac compressor engaged... Maybe even 850-900 if you're using the not-super-accurate dash tach. If you're using a high-dollar whoop-dee-doo shop tach, 800 should be good.

For that question, you gotta wait for a hot-rod diesel guy to show up. My answer was for stock timing, and I don't know back from forward about very-far advanced fuel-squirts.
Hell! He might tell you 600 should'a worked, or that 1000 is marginal.
Hope you're along soon, though.
