i think i know my problem here but looking for some more input, when i finished my motor rebuild i just ran straight water in it for a month or so, did notice any problems at first, i drained some water and put coolant in and started having problems, the truck is always low on water, lower the harder i push it, i tested the radiator and found a bad lower hose, replaced it-no difference in loss, i have just been keeping it full with water and noticed its a rust color now and it will come out the radiator cap when i drive it hard, all the head bolts were tighten to specs, no oil in coolant or water in oil

im thinking my head needs to come off and get a good cummins gasket (not sure if i used a VR or flee pro) i know there is a debate between a hot re-torque and no re-torque when you put the head bolts back in, i didnt do a hot re-torque and from what i have heard that is the right way

oh and i did notice when i had my head off there was pit marks in the block right were the exhaust ports are in the head, i didnt pull the head because because it was blown or anything the first time and i didnt have this problem before the rebuild so i dont think its form those pits
